WEEKLY NEWS FOR MARCH 12

Good morning folks!

At the end of last week, Sun Peaks Resort confirmed the Ski Patrol facility will be home to a new private medical practice, operated by Dr. Catherine Nowierski. We followed up with SPR to learn more.

β€œDr. Nowierski has already worked with Sun Peaks Mountain Patrol to provide on-site medical support for guests,” director of communications Christina Antoniak said. β€œIn addition to this ongoing collaboration, she will now operate her independent medical practice within the same facility through this agreement with SPR and be able to serve patients from the Sun Peaks to Heffley community.”

Nowierski didn’t respond to our request for more information, such as what her hours of operation will be and whether the clinic will be a permanent solution or a stop-gap measure to something more longterm.

However, Antoniak clarified the patrol facility is open seven days a week, and the agreement between Nowierski and SPR does not have a set term. Scroll down to read that story.

In other health centre related news, municipal staff are requesting council move forward with a consultant to help navigate the process of reopening the clinic. I have more on that below.

I chatted with local athlete Charlie Roberts this week, who is making big moves in Europe as a member of Team Germany, and will be competing in a world cup competition in Azerbaijan this weekend. Wish him luck! Plus, the Sun Peaks Freestyle Club recapped its season thus far, gearing up for its 10th anniversary next year. I spoke with the president of the club, Trevor Lott, to learn more.

β€œIt’s been a great year that reflects both on the competitive momentum that we have in our club, and also the depth of programming that we’ve been building,” Lott said of the 2025/2026 season. Read both of those stories below.

And last but not least, contributor Breanne Massey attended this year’s T-REX relay, chatted with a few participants and snapped some photos. Read more below!
