WEEKLY NEWS FOR FEB. 5

Good evening folks!

Over the past few weeks we have been sorting through all the survey responses from readers regarding the health centre. We deeply appreciate all the feedback, questions and experiences folks made the time to share, and have an article this week reflecting just a few of those stories.

We took some of those concerns to Mayor Rob O’Toole to learn more about the process, particularly the need for confidentiality and privacy during negotiations, and while he wasn’t able to provide specific details he did offer some reassurance.

“I can confidently say that we're doing everything in our power to remove hurdles, to make this process as simple and workable as it can be,” he said.

While this article is just one snapshot of a few experiences, it represents many similar cases in our community. A lot of readers called for more communication from the municipality and a timeline of reopening. While the latter question is yet to be answered, we hope our article this week provides some context.

Our survey is still open for those who would like to contribute their thoughts.

Plus, earlier this year long-time local Jim Alix received the Paul Harris Fellowship from the Rotary Club of Sun Peaks, and we spoke with him and rotary’s co-president, Jullie Kimmel to learn more about this honour.

“Jim is just a good human,” Kimmel said. “I think Jim is the kind of person that if you were in a bind, he’d be the first person you’d call.”

Finally, there was a head-on collision on the route to Sun Peaks Feb. 1, prompting a safety reminder for driving in winter conditions. One person was hospitalized and the case is still under investigation according to the RCMP. Please use care when passing other drivers and drive to road conditions.

More on each of these stories is below. Have a great weekend!
