WEEKLY NEWS FOR JULY 9

Good afternoon folks,

This week you may have noticed some smokey skies due to a few wildfires burning in the region. The closest, a 20.1 hectare wildfire off Harper Ranch Road in Kamloops is under control and is not projected to spread beyond the current perimeter. A 50 hectare wildfire in Riley Creek, just south of Lillooet remains out of control and a 663 hectare wildfire near Lytton is under control. There is no threat to Sun Peaks at this time, and we will continue to monitor all wildfires in the Kamloops Fire Centre. Visit the BC Wildfire map to get all confirmed and relevant information.

Meantime, I spoke with Sun Peaks Fire and Rescue to learn more about what is happening locally to prepare for the summer. From fuel management to communications, scroll down to learn more.

Next, I chatted with Greg Albrecht from Tourism Sun Peaks about Rockin’ in the Peaks! The event was a success and plans are already beginning for next year’s weekend of rock.

Read about it below.

Finally, I chatted with Pam Schneider and Katie Oldrieve from Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks about the new adaptive mountain bike program starting in August. Scroll down to read more about Schneider and Oldrieve’s new roles as well as the new summer program coming to Sun Peaks.

Try not to breathe in too much smoke and enjoy the weekend Sun Peaks!
