Good morning folks,

Last week brought a spot wildfire a bit close for comfort, just five kilometres north of the village. It has since been extinguished, but the risk of wildfire remains high.

With questions abound about what to do and how to prepare in the event of a wildfire evacuation, I've drafted a guide with some resources, informed by the Sun Peaks Master Evacuation Plan and Sun Peaks Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR AN EVACUATION: THE BASICS

When preparing for an emergency evacuation, pack a go bag, register for support services and stay informed.

💰 As wildfire evacuees from Boston Bar arrive in Kamloops, the Kamloops Emergency Operations Centre will receive $30,000 in funding, among 110 Emergency Operations Centre projects supported province-wide, for a full-scale emergency exercise, section equipment and connectivity supplies, according to a news release from the province.

🚩 After ancestral remains were reported to the RCMP by a member of the public July 15, Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc and the City of Kamloops protecting a site in the City of Kamloops' West End, South Shore neighbourhood. “Out of respect for the community, the ancestor, cultural protocols, and the ongoing process, no additional details are available at this time,” a press joint release stated.

📨 Nomination packages are now available for Thompson-Nicola Regional District Electoral Area candidates for the 2026 General Local Elections. Packages can be downloaded by visiting the General Local Elections 2026 webpage or picked up during regular office hours from the TNRD Civic Building at 465 Victoria St., Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nomination packages can only be submitted between Tuesday, Sept. 1 and Friday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. The election is Saturday, Oct. 17.

🚴🏻 Locals ride for just $35. All ticket proceeds will be donated to the Kamloops Bike Riders Association, Kamloops Mountain Bike Trail Association and Sun Peaks Recreational Trail Association. Sun Peaks Resort will contribute an extra $500 if this night sells out.
