WEEKLY NEWS FOR FEB. 27

Hello folks,

Today you’ll be getting two newsletters as we break down and explain what happened this week (it was a lot).

This morning, Feb. 27, the municipality released a statement that Dr. Catherine Nowierski has withdrawn her proposal to operate the health centre. You can read more about this statement below. We will be following up with council and the mayor to learn more.

This comes on the heels of the council meeting Feb. 24, during which the conversation focused heavily on the health centre, with a Q and A taking the majority of the hour and 45-minute meeting. A day later the municipality released a Sun Peaks Community Health Centre Process Summary documenting the timeline of negotiations, including sticking points and legislative hindrances.

This is a long one, with lots to dig into so don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions. We’re here to help you navigate this document. As a reminder, SPIN has been following the health centre process closely. You can find all these stories on our dedicated landing page

In regional news, T'kemlúps te Secwépemc provided an update on its investigation into potential burials at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School. Sharing its own process hurdles, the nation said it has been working to gather documents and records from the provincial and federal governments and the Roman Catholic Church of Canada.

T'kemlúps te Secwépemc stated it has faced “significant challenges” in getting access to records from the government and Catholic Church.

Read more on all of these stories below and be on the lookout for our council newsletter this evening.

Stay well,

Hollie
