WEEKLY NEWS FOR NOV. 6

Good morning folks!

One reader recently reached out asking SPIN to create a survey related to the ongoing process of replacing the community health centre's operator. If there's anything we love at Sun Peaks Independent News its reader engagement, and surveys are a close second. So we drafted one up and want to know your thoughts!

Please take a few minutes to fill out this form and we will do our best to get you answers. We've followed this process since July, and we have compiled a landing page dedicated to the health centre as well as a FAQ article. We will continue to add answers as we get them.

Fill out the survey

Meantime, Mayor Rob O'Toole addressed the community's growing concern at this week's council meeting.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining respectful dialogue, both online and in person noting that while opinions may differ, everyone ultimately wants what’s best for Sun Peaks. O’Toole reflected on the strong community spirit that has defined the village since its early days and encouraged residents to continue debating with kindness, remembering that β€œwe’re still neighbours and friends” once the conversations end.

This week I spoke with the president of the Sun Peaks Rotary Club and learned more about rotary work in the municipality. In addition to seeking a new secretary, the club is preparing the community’s Remembrance Day ceremony at Sun Peaks Plaza Nov. 11 from 10:50 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. Read the full story to learn more.

I also got to chat with Sun Peaks Resort and Snow Secure’s chief executive officer Antti Lauslahti about new snow-preservation technology in Sun Peaks.

β€œThe technology is energy efficient, reducing energy usage by up to 70 per cent compared to traditional snowmaking,” Lauslahti said. β€œBy storing snow from colder days, resorts can save energy, conserve water and ensure a reliable snow base for early season operations.”
