WEEKLY NEWS FOR OCT. 30

Good morning folks! 

On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to attend Sun Peaks Education Society’s annual general meeting, where board and community members celebrated 15 years of learning on the mountain. Among the updates, the society unveiled a new name and plans for a new logo. I heard from passionate board members and returning students who benefited from their education in Sun Peaks. 

“Going to school on the ski hill and skiing at lunchtime was a unique experience,” graduate Korina Linder said. 

One of SPIN’s most popular stories is my feature on the school and society  ‘How a grassroots school became heart of Sun Peaks’, and it’s also one of my favourites. I really enjoyed reconnecting with the society for this week’s story. Learn more below. 

I also learned more about an upcoming program to help students learn about film photography. Keep your eye out for the exhibition showing off their skills in February. We will be sure to keep you updated.  

I also chatted with Snow Limo Tours operator Michael Pfeil, who is sharing a petition in hopes of getting back on the mountain this winter. Sun Peaks Resort LLP decided to end its partnership with Snow Limo Tours following a lawsuit by a participant of the tour, effective this season. To read more about the petition scroll down.

Sun Peaks Church will be holding a service every Sunday evening at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join at the Annex.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library’s mobile library visits Sun Peaks School every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Whitecroft Village from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Fridays

AA community addictions meetings run every Friday at Sun Peaks Secondary beside the Health Clinic, starting at 7:30 p.m.
