WEEKLY NEWS FOR APRIL 23 |
|
Good evening folks,
My name is Noelle and I am SPINβs newest community reporter. Hollie introduced me last week, but I wanted to come on here and say hello for myself so, hello! Iβm happy to be a part of this team and quite excited to experience mountain life in Sun Peaks.
This week, I dug into the municipalityβs asset management plan process. Behind the PDFs and infrastructure jargon, itβs really about making sure that all the things we rely on such as roads, water, sewers and public facilities donβt quietly fall apart.
Staff are reviewing costs for over 4,400 assets valued at over $160 million, a pretty big reminder that potholes, pipes and public buildings donβt exactly take care of themselves. Read more about where the municipality is at with the plan and what the next steps are below.
Next, Hollie chatted with David Koleszar and Ryan Schmalz from the Sun Peaks Local Hockey League about how the league came to be. Starting from creating ice by spraying water on a tennis court and becoming the league it is today, Koleszar and Schmalz reflect back on the good olβ days when rec hockey first made its debut in the Sun Peaks community.
Finally, there is scheduled power outage on Monday April 27 that will impact Sun Peaks, Heffley Creek and regions of Kamloops, Knouff Lake and Louis Creek. Scroll down to our news brief for more details.
Editor's note: Last week's council newsletter mistakenly attributed collaboration with TkβemlΓΊps te SecwΓ©pemc and the municipality for work on the Medicine Trail. The municipality is actually working with SkwlaΜx te SecwepemcuΜlΜecw (formerly Little Shuswap Lake Band), along with Adams Lake Indian Band and Neskonlith Indian Band. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

π You may have noticed a few new parking rules along Valley Drive and arterial roads, including McGillivray Lake Drive and Sun Peaks Road between Valley Drive and Bella Vista Drive, to support egress in the case of an emergency. Last week, council adopted a parking and traffic amendment bylaw to restrict summer parking on these roads to prevent parking on the walking path.
βWe can't park on the road and have the walking path and have vehicles drive by. It's just not wide enough,β said director of development and community services Demitri Hofer during the March 24 council meeting.
